Oregon Department of Forestry sales have averaged $605/MBF in 2026 (32 sales, January to October 2026), down 3% from 2025's $622/MBF; 2024 averaged $549/MBF. Washington DNR's 2026 sales have averaged $315/MBF (75 sales), so a month's all-state figure moves with how many of each agency's sales close in it.

State stumpage sold for a volume-weighted $343 per MBF over the three months through October 2026. Oregon Department of Forestry prices averaged $605/MBF in 2026, down 3 percent from 2025's $622/MBF. Washington DNR's 2026 average of $315/MBF sits well below Oregon; when DNR sales dominate a month, the blended price falls accordingly.

How this timber price chart is built

This chart answers one question: what have state agencies been paid for standing timber, month by month? Each point is the volume-weighted average of the winning bids on green sawtimber sales that sold in that month, in dollars per thousand board feet (what an MBF is): every sale's price per MBF times its volume, summed, divided by the month's total volume, so a 10,000 MBF sale counts ten times as much as a 1,000 MBF one. The figure in the opening line is the same calculation over the latest three months, the number the timber statistics page quotes. Among months with at least three priced sales, the all-state figure has run from $296/MBF (October 2026) to $733/MBF (May 2025).

It is stumpage: the price of trees on the stump, before anyone pays to log, haul or mill them. It is not a lumber price and not a delivered log price, both of which run higher; what is stumpage and how log prices differ from stumpage prices explain the gap.

Read the months with their sale counts. A month with one or two Oregon sales swings on those sales alone, and Washington DNR's line starts in January 2026, the first month of its results on this site. The agencies' lines are drawn separately because their prices differ: the all-state figure in the table blends them, so a month heavy with Washington sales can read lower without any sale price falling. The year table compares each agency with itself.

Left out on purpose, because they measure wood differently: federal sales (US Forest Service, priced per hundred cubic feet), Montana DNRC and other sales sold by the ton (price per ton vs per MBF), salvage, deck and product sales that sell on token minimums, and Pennsylvania's state forest sales, which use a different board-foot rule. Every sale behind a point is a row on its region page: Oregon by district, Washington DNR's Pacific Cascade Region and the other regions and forests. Douglas-fir stumpage charts the Oregon sales that name it, and the public timber board ranks recent results by premium over the appraised minimum.

Common questions

What is the current price of timber?

Green sawtimber sold at state timber auctions for a volume-weighted $343 per MBF over the three months through October 2026, across 39 sales by the Oregon Department of Forestry, Washington DNR and Idaho Department of Lands. The median sale in that set went for $331/MBF. That is the price of standing trees at public state auctions; private timberland sales are not published, and lumber and delivered logs cost more.

How much have timber prices changed since last year?

Oregon Department of Forestry sales have averaged $605/MBF in 2026 (32 sales, January to October 2026), down 3% from 2025's $622/MBF; 2024 averaged $549/MBF. Compare an agency with itself: Washington DNR results only start on this site in January 2026, so it has no earlier year to compare yet, and the all-state figure shifts with the mix of agencies in a month.

Why does the price jump from one month to the next?

Each month is a handful of auctions, and every sale prices its own timber: species, log size, logging cost and haul distance all differ. A month with one or two sales moves on those sales alone, which is why the table prints each month's sale count beside its price.

Does the chart include federal timber sales?

No. Forest Service sales are cruised and priced per hundred cubic feet (CCF), not per MBF, so they are never averaged with state sales. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest page lists federal results in their own unit.

Can I download the data behind the chart?

Yes. The recent results CSV lists every completed sale with its volume and price, and each region page offers its own sales as a CSV.
